"I'd like to think of myself as a great performer - what
performer wouldn't! I started this journey at a young age,
singing my heart out at festivals, beating a drum kit in a
4/4 rock beat, wearing the puff sleeved sweater my mom knit
me. I can clearly remember the first time I was on stage.
I was in grade 2 and it was a Christmas pageant. Every kid
had to say a few lines from the Night Before Christmas.
When it was my turn, I stepped out of the single file line
we were arranged in and took center stage. I looked out at
all the mom's and dad's staring me, and burst out into
hysterical laughter. 'Everyone is looking at me!' I thought
this was the greatest thing in the whole entire world. The
audience was laughing, there were tears in our eyes...and
then, I dropped my ecstatic face, and delivered the lines.
Many years later, I'm still imprisoned by the thrill of
performing. I love it and if I'm not 'getting any', I'm
miserable. This is what drives me to perform. Necessity
for mental well being."
Boback's guitar style started with punk rock on a true
vintage 69 strat, which somehow melted into a classical
guitar preference. Her vocals went from rock to industrial
and dance, and has settled on some fence between, soul, rock
and jazz. Any one of Boback’s songs can be melted into a
yummy pot of dance culture while still maintaining the
intensity and soul of which it was written.
When the club mix of 'Merci Beaucoup' hit the clubs in New
York it earned Michelle the title of 'vocal siren' (see
lollipop review). Boback continues to work with a variety
of musicians from the US and Canada. Her current shows in
Vancouver are staged with Suzka, spawning 'The Boback and
Suzka Show'. Boback has been known to ingage the audience
with props and lyrical fascinations. Never the same show
twice, she cultivates musicians to constantly evolve her
live shows.
Boback is also a respected member of the film community.
Her first lead role in Creepy Six Films' 'Torched'
(released 'Hell Hath No Fury') as the emotionally turmoiled
'Deanna' is now a horror cult hit and is scheduled for
release by Brain Damage Films this spring 2006. Classical,
and musical training has kept Michelle a Theatre
enthusiast. The great play by Andrew Farrar ' Tecumseh As A
Doorstop' has taken Michelle from Vancouver to Montreal,
performing the heart filled role of Megan. She has had
leading roles in the films "Tortured" with Laurence
Fishburne, "Destination: Infestation", "South of Houston
st", "Smokejumpers" and more.
Michelle studied acting in Winnipeg, Manitoba at Actor's
Showcase, and currently teaches and coaches young / beginner
actors through workshops across the country.
